The Design Studios

. . . . . .
Summarising the studios in 2006, Professor and architect Tom Heneghan writes:
"The four international Design Studios ended with juries on Cockatoo Island which can only be described as a success of the type that becomes legend."
. . . . . .

This year three design studios lead by emerging international architects will run from July 13 to 25, 2009.

The studios will focus intensively on the question of re-programming the site of Cockatoo Island into a vibrant cultural precinct. Designs, events, media curation, manifestos, installations and performances are just some of the proposals possible.

Each studio will have about 15 participants who are senior year architecture students at various universities around Sydney. The studios will partly take place on the island, and also in the studios of the Faculty of Design, Architecture + Building [DAB] at UTS, 702-730 Harris St, Ultimo.

The international guest practices invited to run each studio group are:
   > Geoff Manaugh / BLDGBLOG    [ USA ]
   > Mette Ramsgard Thomsen    [ Denmark ]
   > Mark Smout / SMOUT ALLEN    [ UK ]
Students will have the opportunity to hear introductory lectures by the 3 guests before voting to participate in a specific group.
